I have been building apps since 2018, when I decided to leave academia and jump into software. After dipping my toes in some basic front end web development, I soon found my way into full stack, working on servers and cross-platform mobile apps. But enough of the contemplative life has remained with me that I've always wanted to keep writing. This blog is for me to share thoughts about things I build, about my impressions of the field, and about my life in general.
While most of my current work is on cross-platform apps in Flutter and Dart, I also have a broad range of experience in other fields of software development. I have worked for several years on Rust APIs, both professionally and on my own. I have also worked extensively in .NET, and have experience in all three major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), as well as modern web frameworks (Angular & React). I am always learning new things, both adding depth to the skills I already know and breadth with new skills in my repertoire.
When not working on apps, I pass my time with my wife co-parenting our wild, yet incredibly lovely, son (b. 2021), and exploring the great outdoors around my home town of Charlottesville on either road bike, mountain bike, or on foot.
